Digital Oral History Archive

A collaboration with the Graduate Program in American Studies, Dana Library, and consultants at Randforce Associates to create a digital oral history archive documenting migration to the region. The archive will house digitized, indexed and searchable audio interviews conducted by Rutgers-Newark faculty, students, and community members with a diverse array of immigrants in New Jersey. This technologically and conceptually innovative archive will enable the comparative study of contemporary migration across its ethnic, social, generational, disciplinary, historical and geographic dimensions.

The first stage is a prototype index consisting of 25-30 interviews that document the experience and effects of migration/immigration to the Newark region and the state of New Jersey. The goal of the prototype is to demonstrate the scholarly, pedagogical, and civic potential of an expanded index of interviews on migration, and to attract funders to expand the project.
