Maid in the U.S.A.: Organizing Domestic Labor

Framed by the 20th anniversary of Mary Romero's influential ethnography Maid in the U.S.A. , and this year's publication of the sequel, The Maid's Daughter, this conference will engage the current legal, social, and cultural conditions of domestic labor.

Dr. Romero will be delivering the keynote address.

In collaboration with conference partners the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Domestic Workers United, breakout sessions will generate small focused conversations between domestic workers, service providers, organizers, scholars and students to discuss strategies for expanding rights and improving conditions for domestic workers in New Jersey.

Event Sponsors: Rutgers-Newark Center for Migration and the Global City, Rutgers-Newark Women's and Gender Studies Program, The National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Domestic Workers United.
